What's not so new...
This is the changelog for The Abyss,
March to July 1997. The latest changes are on the What's new? page.
July 27, 1997
- Added a lot of links to new
Slayer sites.
- Added a new Abyss
logo - hope you like it! :) It was raytraced with POV-Ray.
- Added the first batch of new ads to the trading section.
- One addition (fastest song) to the Slayer
FAQ.
- Updated the trivia page with
some new facts.
July 18, 1997
- New section of the site: Slayer Trading!
If you're looking for a rare record, a bootleg,
or just some Slayer merchandise - post an ad on one of
the trading pages!
- Made the navigation bar (on the left if you're using
frames) a little bit smaller. Hopefully, more of it will
be visible if you're using a low resolution such as
640x480. Remember that most modern PC's can run 800x600
in hicolor!
July 13, 1997
July 12, 1997
- Updated the Slayer news page with
info about the Spawn
soundtrack.
- Updated the sounds page.
- Updated the Slayer FAQ with two
new questions - keep'em coming, folks!
- Added track list for the "Less
Than Zero" soundtrack.
- Added shopping links to several items in the discography.
- Added a few ad banners to some of the pages.
July 6, 1997
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking."Lazy
bastard, huh?" Well, I've been (and still am) working
and keeping myself generally busy. Enough excuses, here are the
updates!
- 8 new guitar tablatures
and not less than 18 bass tabs!!!
Thanks a million to Gabriel
Hidalgo, David
Schellhaas and Andreas
Blomqvist!
- 15 new pictures!
6 group pics, 2 of Jeff, 2 of Kerry and one of
Dave Also 4 pictures of Slayer Simpsons-style! :) I still
have more to scan, it's all a matter of time. The
pictures page now features a total of 60
photos!
- Okey, it's not all THAT new, but the OzzFest is out on CD and
video; Slayer are featured with "Angel of
Death". Check the sounds page
for a sample of the song or the multimedia page for some video clips. You can buy the OzzFest CD or video straight
from CD Universe!
- Another award: "Cook's
Comic Shop Coolest Site Award". Thanks to Jereko Cook for
awarding me!
- New page: Slayer
trivia - i.e. stuff that didn't fit anywhere else on
the site. Not much there yet, I need your feedback!
- Removed the two broken MP3 links from the sounds page.
- Finally added the Trocadero Club
bootleg.
June 7, 1997
No, I didn't die. I haven't had the time
or energy to do anything creative on the site lately. The past
week I've been away working in another city, and I'll be away all
next week too. Expect to see some new stuff soon! BTW - don't
forget the Slayer mailing list!
May 7, 1997
May 5, 1997
- Rewrote the "About this
site" page.
- Added a form to the FAQ to make it
easier to submit new questions.
May 3, 1997
April 29, 1997
- Added two fonts to the tools
page - the font used for the Abyss headers
(example: the "What's new?" graphic above) and
the font used by Slayer on the "Seasons in the
Abyss" cover.
- Added a sample of "Sick Boy" (from "Undisputed
Attitude") to the sounds
page. This track is not included on the American
release of the record, so I thought some of you would
like to hear it.
- Added an interview with Jeff Hanneman to the Reviews & interviews page.
- Linked the existing sound files
from the discography pages.
April 26, 1997
- Fixed the links to the RealAudios songs on the sounds page, two of the links were
linked to Gemini - duh! Thanks
to "Keybug"
for mailing me about it, I can't believe that noone
bothered to tell me until now...
April 21, 1997
- Added a new guitar tab for Gemini.
Thanks to Brandon
Goode!
- Redesigned and changed the pictures on the members page.
- Moved the older parts of this page to a separate page to decrease the
downloading time.
April 19, 1997
April 11, 1997
- Okey, the rumour about Slayer performing in San Francisco
now in April was false. I received
information from Paul Bostaph saying that Slayer
has no immediate plans for touring as far as he knows.
The other news I received from him are on the Slayer news page.
April 10, 1997
April 3, 1997
As you might have noticed, the Abyss has been
misbehaving lately. The reason is that FrontPage screwed up and I
couldn't upload pages the right way. The problem has been solved
now, thanks to the great support from Pair networks
(my web space provider). Here's what's new:
- Three new guitar tabs from Undisputed
Attitude, among them Gemini! Many
thanks to David Schellhaas
and Oskar
Wigren for sending them to me!
- I've moved the awards to a
separate page. Keep'em coming, folks! :)
- Finally, after several months wait, Yahoo
decided to add my site to their index.
March 25, 1997
Okey, I've been pretty busy/lazy lately, so I haven't spent
much time on this site. I'm also aware of that I'm lagging behind
with the emails I get from you guys. Keep'em coming, I'll reply
ASAP! Anyway, here are the latest changes:
- You can now subscribe to the mailing list
by simply filling out a form, instead of sending email. Should
be fool-proof. :)
- Updated the sounds page, no new
sounds but some additional information. Also a list of wanted songs, go
there and request what you want to hear or submit samples
if you have any rare Slayer songs.
- The Abyss has received its second award: the
Powers Court Award for great contributions to metal!
Thanks to Danie
Powers!
- I've joined the Ring of Metal - a ring
connecting a lot of metal sites together. You can find
the ring links on the main page.
- Added covers for the bootlegs
"Butcher Babies" and "Slaughter in the
North". Thanks to Jonas
Kimvall!
- Added a lot of reciprocal
links and links to other
Slayer sites.
March 14, 1997
- New page: the Pictures
page with a lot of photos that can only be found here!
Also added some exclusive live pictures from 1996. Thanks to Steve
Golemboski and Toni Järvinen!
- New page: the Sounds
page with RealAudio Slayer songs! Among them Gemini,
a song I've received a lot of requests for.
- Added newly scanned pictures of Tom Araya, Kerry King and Paul Bostaph to their pages.
- Added an automatic subscribers counter to the mailing list page. The
counter is updated at midnight.
- The PostCrypt font (used in the navigation bar)
is now available for download
(49 kb, ZIP) after several requests.
March 12, 1997
- The Slayer mailing list is
up and running! C'mon in and join it! (Though don't
expect too much traffic the first few days. :)
- Updated the tools page.
- Added
<META>
tags to some of the pages to improve search results.

March 10, 1997
March 8, 1997
As you have probably noticed, the Abyss
has moved to its own domain: Slaytanic.com! The new web host is Pair networks. From now on,
you'll experience much faster downloads and way less downtime
compared to GeoCities, the old host. I have more storage space
now, which enables me to put up Slayer pictures, instead of just links
to them. I can also add cool and useful features through the use
of CGI scripts and SSI (Server-Side Includes). Anyway, here is a
list of what has changed during the move:
A new navigation bar -
I'd really appreciate feedback on it, if it's hard or
easy to read, how it looks in different browsers and
screen resolutions.
Please send all Abyss- and Slayer-related
mail to janek@slaytanic.com.
My personal address is as usual d95-jhe@nada.kth.se.
This way I can hopefully keep better track of all the
mail I get.
You can now search
the Abyss.
I've added "Buy Now"-links to
the discography, enabling you
to buy the records straight through CD
Universe. More shopping links will be added soon!
The To Do list has been replaced by a
list of Coming features.
I've added a small page about myself.
A new page with statistics
for this site.
An automatically generated Table of Contents is now available.
A tools page
where you can read about the soft- and hardware used in
the development of this site.
The frameless index has been updated and
redesigned, but I still recommend the framed version if
you can use it.
The changelog from September 96 to
March 97 is also available.
